Magazine Literacy Activities…Get Cutting & Get Creative!
I always loved having children’s magazines in my classroom. Not only are they enjoyable to read, but they inform the students of important current events, and students can practice various skills and strategies to tackle reading informational text. My favorites are The Week and Time for Kids, though there are so many new ones out there, it’s worth exploring other options.
Sometimes as a teacher you need a last minute lesson plan for a sub…or a fun literacy center on a Friday…or maybe extra extensions for students who finish an assignment early; using the following magazine articles are perfect for those types of moments. I encourage parents to incorporate these fun literacy activities on a weekend or week night to participate in the reading process with your child.
The only materials you will need is some paper, glue, scissors, and some children magazines or magazines you have around your house that you don’t mind getting cut up!
I invite you to get creative with your students or children…GET CUTTING & GET CREATIVE! Enjoy!
