One-on-One Personalized Teaching

QUESTION: What is the difference between dyslexia therapy and literacy support services?

ANSWER:

Dyslexia therapy consists of intensive 60-minute sessions that precisely follow the "Take Flight: A Comprehensive Intervention for Students with Dyslexia" or Jet: A Faced-Paced Reading Intervention curriculum. This therapy is available four days a week for students formally diagnosed with dyslexia by an educational psychologist. It also supports students who are at risk of dyslexia and are waiting for a formal diagnosis, which can sometimes take several months to a year. Enrolling your child in this program is advisable if they are experiencing significant reading difficulties. Participants in the therapy undergo baseline assessments, which serve as valuable resources for their classroom teachers. These assessments provide information about the Take Flight curriculum and offer insights into dyslexia, dysgraphia, and how to accommodate your child effectively in the school environment.

Literacy Support Services is a 60-minute session designed for students who need extra assistance in specific areas of literacy. All students who choose this option will participate in various informal baseline reading assessments to identify their strengths and weaknesses. Based on these assessments, an individualized plan will be developed using effective, research-based instructional practices. Literacy support sessions typically occur 1 to 2 times weekly and can be conducted one-on-one. Instruction is tailored to meet each child’s unique needs.
